Member of any of the North American Indian
peoples of the Great Plains, which extend
over 3,000 km/2,000 mi from Alberta to Texas.
The Plains Indians were drawn from diverse
linguistic stocks fringing the Plains, but
shared many cultural traits, especially the
nomadic hunting of bison herds once horses
became available in the 18th century. The
various groups include Blackfoot, Cheyenne,
Comanche, Pawnee, and the Dakota or Sioux.
